Why Android phones are good for gaming

When it comes to gaming, and in particular online gaming, and if you share our interests that means playing games on sites like Lucky Nugget online casino, then there are really only two phones that really make the grade. With apologies to Windows 8 phones which really do seem to be increasingly left behind, the only important players are the Apple iOS iPhones and Android phones, in particular those at the top end of the performance league.

Although iPhones didn’t get off to a great start when it came to online gaming, due mainly to Apple’s reluctance (and in particular the reluctance of Steve Jobs, the late CEO of Apple) to include Adobe Flash in the phone’s software. Flash was for a while the main platform used in online gaming, but over time Flash became increasingly less important. Today HTML5 is the main online gaming platform which is ideal for the iPhone. While Android phones did use Adobe Flash, they are also equally able to use HTML5, and Adobe Flash is being phased out on mobile devices.

So, with HTML5 being the online gaming platform of choice, is there now a level playing field between the iPhone 5 and Android phones? In terms of operating systems this is really the case. There are differences between the iOS of the iPhone and Android operating systems, but in terms of online gaming the differences are insignificant.

So what does it come down to? Really the answer here is choice. While the iPhone 5 is truly an excellent device for online gaming, there is just the one device. You can’t pay a little more for an iPhone with a larger display; four inches is what you get. Neither can you economise and buy a cheaper less well featured iPhone 5. You can buy an iPhone 4, but that is simply buying last years’ technology; life has moved on since then.

With Android phones there is a huge choice in terms of price and performance and you get pretty well what you pay for. Splash out and buy a Samsung Galaxy 4S with an eight core processor (or in the UK four core) and a five and a half inch display, or save some cash and opt for a smaller display and slower speed.

7 Tips to Save Battery on Android Phone

Normally your Android phone will last for 5 to 6 hours if you are on phone all the time. But as many of us need our phones for whole day; we can opt for backup additional power sources but it will cut short our money. Hence we should follow some battery saving tips and those are presented here at your service.

Tip 1: Switch off everything not in use
  • General apps - One should learn to know what all apps are running in the background and how to turn them off. On Android, in the “Settings” screen, choose “Applications.” Under the “Running Services” tab you’ll see all running apps. If you don’t need any of them, close immediately.
  • Turn off the wireless feature when not needed. (Settings » Wireless controls » Wi-Fi, or get the Wireless Settings free app)
  • Turn off the Bluetooth feature when not needed. (Settings » Wireless controls » Bluetooth)
  • Turn off the GPS. (Settings » Security & location » Enable GPS satellites). But make sure to switch it on some time before you intend to use it as it may take some time to record your current location and other requirements.

Tip 2: Seek battery usage info before downloading new apps

I understand the urge to download every new app about which people are talking about. But if you care about battery life of your phone then please make sure it don’t eat much battery else it will be waste of time and efforts.

Tip 3: Use the Display (Screen) wisely
  • Set your screen timeout to the shortest length possible. (Settings » Sound & display » Screen timeout)
  • Reduce the brightness of your display. (Settings » Sound & Display » Brightness). You will find two options in display menu to control it; tap Brightness to select constant screen brightness or to enable automatic adjustment to suit the ambient light.
Tip 4: Go easy on video and games

Yes we all love watching videos and playing games on our phones but there can be more important tasks waiting to be accomplished and hence if you have other priorities then make sure you go easy on video and gaming apps. Also, ensure that you are choosing best apps on android market download.

Tip 5: Do some rationing on Widgets

We use Widgets as they are very helpful, but at the same time widgets such news tickers or weather forecasters -- need processing time and data download to stay updated. It is suggested that instead of painting your home screen with them create shortcuts and use only when required.

Tip 6: Try third party power managing apps

There is inbuilt mechanism to manage power of your phone in Android but third party power manager like Juice Defender can certainly help. It works automatically to keep power use down and you can tailor the settings to be more aggressive if needed. So, make ensure to check android market to find such apps.

Tip 7: Vibration mode

The small device which will vibrate your phone when you don’t want to hear the ring when active eats up lots of battery. Simply turn off the phone vibration function (Settings » Sound & display » Phone vibrate). Alternatively, set the ringer volume all the way off.

Apart from these tips to save battery on Android phone Keep your battery cool when charging (and while in use) as extreme temperatures can negatively impact battery life. In an emergency (15 per cent charge remaining) immediately head for the notifications bar and turn off as many options as possible and enjoy long lasting battery of your Android phone.

How will 4G impact on the playing of games?

Ever since 4G, the fourth generation of mobile phone communications technology, received its launch at the Consumer Electronics Show last year there has been a lot of speculation about the impact that it would have. Those in the gaming industry, including online casino websites like the Ladbrokes one, were watching with particular interest to see whether the technology would be suitable for supporting their software and games, and now that we know that this is definitely the case what does this mean for those playing casino games on a mobile phone?

Play Games

Well potentially 4G could make playing casino games at sites like the one from Ladbrokes on your mobile more like playing them on a computer – by enabling it to be powered by the browser rather than the user having to download software onto their phone. For this to be the case the smartphones with 4G will also have to be equipped with HTML5 capability, but this has the potential to make the actual casino gaming experience more reliable and smoother – while the elimination of downloads could help to attract those who might be interested in playing casino but do not want to download any more software to their phones. Follow the link to try it out now.

There are other ways that 4G stands to significantly enhance the experience of playing casino games – or indeed any other type of game. One of these is the fact that downloading games on phones with 4G is a lot faster than it is with 3G, with the difference believed to be around twenty times. Again this is likely to make the experience of playing casino games on a mobile phone much more attractive to people who are currently put off by the hassles, such as lengthy download times, that have dogged it up until now. It could well prove to be a major step further towards mobile phones replacing desktop computers as the primary medium for gaming.

Apple or Android for mobile gaming?

Increasingly it appears that mobiles represent the future of online gaming, as they offer a step forward in terms of convenience of use on even the smallest of laptop computers. Therefore it is not surprising that more and more gaming companies, like casino.ladbrokes.com, are targeting the mobile user market for their games, but within this market there are innumerable different mobile devices available. Essentially however these can be divided into two different groups, based on the operating system they employ: Apple and Android devices. Which of these offers the better internet service for mobile gaming though?Android-OR-AppleWell the figures would certainly seem to point to this being Apple. The company is dominating Android in the mobile gamer market, particularly in the US, to a remarkable degree. Currently Apple devices are taking 84 percentage of the total revenue from mobile gaming in the U.S. which suggests that gamers there have made a clear choice about which of these operating systems offers them the best internet for playing games.

Certainly this is supported by opinion within the gaming community, where the latest iPad is rated as offering one of the best gaming experiences available, but Apple’s lead in this market may not be entirely down to their devices offering a better internet service than Android ones.

Much of Apple’s share of the gaming market has been attributed to the fact that the devices are easier to use for gaming because - unlike Android ones – they do not require the user to submit financial details in order to access them; something which gives them the edge in terms of convenience but also security. When it comes to internet quality Android devices are actually rated much closer to Apple ones, and indeed the number of Android devices available, coupled with the fact that it is a more widely available platform, appears to be tipping the balance back towards Android.
